CONSERVATION DISTRICT AND NRCS EMPLOYEES

The
District Manager manages District operations, which includes a wide
variety of programs. She works closely with the
Board of Directors who donate their time to set policy and
provide direction for the District's conservation efforts.
The Chesapeake Bay Program
concentrates on improving local water
quality which, in turn, improves the quality of water entering the
Susquehanna River and, ultimately, the Bay. Ed Zygmunt, the Chesapeake Bay
Technician, helps landowners remedy nutrient management problems with
such measures as streambank fencing, animal waste management facilities, and barnyard run-off control.
The E & S Technician,
administers the Chapter 102/NPDES programs. He handles earth disturbance/stream encroachment problems and is
responsible for erosion and sediment control plan reviews. He
also administers the Dirt & Gravel Road Program.
Is the
Watershed Specialist. He provides technical assistance to the private and public sectors with the
intended goal of improving and developing an enhanced watershed community.
He also works with the local Watershed Associations within the county.
Is the Environmental Education
Coordinator for the District. She organizes presentations and workshops for teachers, schools,
day care center, clubs and nursing homes. She also implements
education programs for camps. Laura can tailor a program to fit any request.
The Natural Resources Conservation
Service (NRCS), a branch of the U.S. Department
of Agriculture, is housed in the same office as the Conservation District.
Kevin Rohe and Ed Patchcoski work with farmers and landowners to conserve cropland,
improve wildlife habitat and environmental quality in general.
Carol Owens, Information Systems
Specialist/Resource Planner,
maintains computer records for NRCS, and prepares news articles and press releases to inform the public
of special
programs and activities of the District. She is the contact for most
workshops that the District implements, including the Contractors'/Engineers'
Workshop held every March.
Carol also writes the quarterly
newsletter, which has announcements of the district's yearly seedling sale, three fish
sales and other district activities.

The
Administrative Assistant is your first contact whether you visit or
call the District office. She has a working knowledge of the District programs and will assist with environmental questions or concerns you may have.
She is the contact for the seedling sale,
topographical maps and barley straw. She also handles the accounts payable, accounts receivable and
updates the web page.
Bernie
is in one of the newly created positions within the District. He is a
Stream Restoration Technician. He is working with the US Fish &
Wildlife Service in a joint project for stream restoration in the
Tunkhannock Creek Watershed and Bowmans Creek Watershed.
Dillon
is in the other newly created position within the District.. He is also a
Stream Restoration Technician. He is working with the US Fish &
Wildlife Service in a joint project for stream restoration in the
Tunkhannock Creek Watershed and Bowmans Creek Watershed.
